Disputes and spot checks

Three ways to act when something is wrong: dispute a proof, ask for a spot check, or take back an instalment that was never proved.

Disputing a proof

Each proof opens a seven-day window. While it is open, the instalment shows a Dispute this instalment button on the campaign page. You give a written reason; the owner and the arbiter will read it. Then you confirm the transaction from the wallet the campaign is recorded against.

Disputing freezes that instalment only. The rest of the campaign carries on. The owner is told, with your words, and can reply. Each side can add up to three statements.

If you do nothing, the instalment pays when the window closes. That is deliberate.

The arbiter

A named person at peelbid reads both sides and the evidence, including proofs and spot checks, and decides on-chain: release the instalment to the owner, return it to you, split it, or end the campaign and return everything not yet released. The reason and the arbiter’s name go to both sides. On mainnet a decision needs two of three keys. More on Proofs and disputes.

Spot checks

Between proofs you can ask the owner for a fresh photo, to see the placement is still there. The rules:

  1. Only once the placement has been proved.
  2. At most once every 30 days, and one open at a time.
  3. The owner has 48 hours to answer, with a new code, the same way as a proof.
  4. An unanswered spot check is marked missed. Both sides are told, and it stays on the record for the arbiter.

A spot check does not move money on its own. It is evidence.

Reclaiming a missed instalment

If the owner never sends the first proof within 14 days of funding, you can take the whole amount back. If a later proof is not sent within 14 days of its due day, you can take that instalment back. You are told when either becomes possible, and the campaign page shows a button to reclaim it. It is a call to the contract from your wallet. No dispute and no arbiter are involved, and there is no fee on it.
